Participants should understand Grounding its purpose and requirements
Participants should understand conductors types, capacity, sizing, effect of temperature
- Participants should understand electrical codes that apply to HVAC system
- Participants should know what voltage drop is and the limits imposed by the code and
equipment manufacture.
Course Involves
Introduction to the code and its origination
Work space around electrical equipment
The use of the grounded conductor and grounding conductor and the difference
- What branch circuits are, number required and loads for existing service being upped
- Over current protection, sizing, location, types, and requirements,
Voltage drop on feeder cable and branch circuits
Objectionable current over grounding conductors, and what can be done
- Wiring methods wire types wire current handling, temperature effect on wire
- Power system and requirements for cable insulation on different system
- Voltage drop on conductors
Number of conductor in conduit boxes and conduit body's
Different power system and voltages they produce
Resistance boilers, Electrode boilers, duct heater, disconnect means
Motors, air conditioning equipment, hazard location, low voltage system
Class is an 8 hour credit
The course is design to increase the awareness of Master contractors and Journeyman
- of the importance of the electrical code, how it applies to the HVAC industry and
- proper use and sizing of wire and wiring methods
